Statesboro's Bi-Lo grocery store at the Statesboro Mall was robbed Wednesday night by a man who threatened to shoot an employee if he did not keep quiet.
Statesboro Police Capt. Scott Brunson said the suspect, a black male standing about 6'2", weighing between 150 and 200 pounds, and wearing a black shirt, jacket and jeans, jumped over the customer service desk counter around 11:20 p.m. Wednesday and threatened a male employee.
The suspect never showed a firearm, but said to the victim "be quiet or I'll shoot you," police incident reports stated.
The suspect grabbed an undisclosed amount of cash from both the store safe and a cash register, then hopped back over the counter.
The man fled through the store, and exited out the back, Brunson said.
No one was hurt during the incident. Brunson said other employees listed as witnesses in reports stated they noticed the suspect inside the store for about 30 minutes before he committed the robbery.
Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to contact Statesboro Police Det. Sgt. James Winskey at 764-1542. Winskey is leading the investigation regarding the robbery, Brunson said.
