The Averitt Center for the Arts will offer an after school program this year for children with an emphasis on art, literature, music and theater.
The “Art After Hours” program is open to elementary and middle school students, and will combine homework time and a snack with fine arts instruction, said coordinator Tony Phillips.
The program runs from 2:30 to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Friday with a cost of $150 per month for Averitt Center members and $175 per month for non-members.
All campers also will pay a $5 per week fee for art supplies. Phillips said the program is flexible and parents can choose to sign their students up for a month, a week or a day. Drop-ins are welcome, he said.
The program will follow the Bulloch County school calendar and begins the first day of school, Aug. 1. Enrollment is limited and Phillips said he would begin accepting students Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Averitt Center. Instructors will be on hand to meet parents and students, as well as answer questions.
“The Averitt Center is working to provide children’s fine arts opportunities that complement the arts education students receive at home and school,” Phillips said. “By providing quality arts opportunities in an after school format, we are meeting a need no other after school program provides.”
Phillips said children would have time to work on homework, have a snack and receive instruction in several areas of the arts, including performing, visual and literary arts such as theater and acting, music and signing, improvisation, dance, water color, clay, photography, poetry, science fiction, comics and classic literature.
