Nomination forms should be submitted by March 15 to the Legends Gallery Committee, Statesboro Arts Council, P.O. Box 926, Statesboro, GA 30459.

Willie McTell. Emma Kelly. Michael Braz. Roxie Remley.
In Statesboro, these men and women are known not only for their amazing artistic abilities, but for their contributions to the local arts culture. And each has also earned the title of Legend in the Arts.
The Averitt Center for the Arts is currently seeking nominations for its next Legend in the Arts inductee. Since opening in 2004, the Averitt Center has inducted a new member into its Legends Gallery every two years beginning in 2005 with blues guitarist Blind Willie McTell.
“As Statesboro works to build a strong arts culture for generations to come, the Statesboro Arts Council and the Averitt Center also feel it is important to recognize those artists who have made significant contributions to the arts in the past,” said Tim Chapman, the executive director of the Averitt Center.
Nominees may come from any genre of the arts, including the visual arts, music, dance, literature, acting and directing.
To be eligible for Legend in the Arts status, an artist must have been born in Bulloch County or resided there for two or more consecutive years. Nominees may be an individual or group. In addition, nominees will be evaluated on their level of achievement, which includes the scope of their artistic endeavors, their influence on others and their professional conduct and image. Artists who have previously been nominated may be nominated again.
“The arts is the vehicle through which a community celebrates its culture,” Chapman said. “That culture can be reflected through the fine arts, music, theater, dance or architecture, to name a few. Our city has many examples of all these art forms that help us share our culture and history with local residents and out-of-town guests. Investment in a community, in my opinion, is the best way to create a legacy, and we want to recognize those accomplishments with this prestigious award.”
The deadline to submit a nomination is March 15. The inductee will be announced during a ceremony in September.
