Assaults lead to injuries but no charges
Statesboro Police Department patch

Statesboro police responded to two aggravated assault incidents recently where victims were seriously injured, but no charges were filed.

Saturday, police were called to a James Street location where a man said he was attacked by four men at the Elk’s Lodge, said Statesboro Police Det. Sgt. Patrick Haralson.

The victim, who suffered a broken jaw, declined to press charges and was “uncooperative,” he said.

Monday, a woman was seriously injured on Kent Street when she was run over by another woman who was “acting in self-defense,” he said.

The injured woman was fighting with the driver, who said the other woman pulled a gun on her and struck her car with it. Frightened, the driver “hit the gas” and ran over the female with the alleged gun.

The injured female, who denied having a gun, suffered a broken pelvis, leg and arm, Haralson said. The driver was not charged.
