Police found an assault rifle and handgun in a Statesboro man's apartment Saturday, along with marijuana, Bulloch County Sheriff Lynn Anderson said.
After receiving tips about drug sales, investigators with the Statesboro-Bulloch County Crime Suppression Team executed a search warrant at Cambridge at Southern Apartments on Lanier Drive, the sheriff said.
They seized "a quantity of marijuana," along with a 9 mm handgun and an AK-47 assault rifle, Anderson said in a Tuesday news release.
Cory Harrison, 21, of Lanier Drive, was charged with sale of marijuana, possession of marijuana and two counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
"Lanier Drive, an area of high student population and adjacent to Georgia Southern property such as Paulson Stadium, is a priority area for the Crime Suppression Team," Anderson said. "Part of C.S.T.'s mandate is to target violence and the drug activity which often spawns such violence in these areas."
The Crime Suppression Team is a partnership between the Bulloch County Sheriff's Office and Statesboro Police Department.
