Police officers responding to a report of a man with a gun Monday ended up making an arrest in an armed robbery that happened three days before.

Victims of an armed robbery at Eagle Gate Apartments on Friday did not report the incident until Monday. Through investigation, officers learned that Earick Tarelle Henry Jr., 17, was involved in the crime, said Statesboro Police Deputy Chief Rob Bryan, interim chief.

Officers responded to the Eagle Gate Apartments area around 3:30 p.m. Monday after witnesses reported seeing a man with a gun, Bryan said. Officers and detectives located Henry in the nearby Little Lotts Creek apartment complex, and he fled on foot. He was apprehended and arrested after he was found to be in possession of a handgun and suspected marijuana, Bryan said.

The case was turned over to the Statesboro Police Investigations Bureau and assigned to Detective Kevin Wadley. Henry was taken to the Bulloch County Jail, where he awaits further court hearings.

Henry is charged with possession of a handgun by a person under the age of 18, simple assault, obstruction, possession of marijuana, first-degree burglary, armed robbery and aggravated assault.

Anyone with information concerning this case is asked to contact the Statesboro Police Department at (912) 764-9911.
