Statesboro police arrested six suspects they say were behind the July 9 armed robbery of a Chinese food delivery driver, who was struck in the head with a pistol during the holdup.
Three are adults and three are juveniles, Public Safety Director Wendell Turner said in a news release issued Tuesday.
Jeromy Jakeem Lonon, 20, of Pembroke; Jarvis Dennis Perkins, 17, of Green Street; and Dardriquez J. Smith, 17, of West Main Street, along with three juveniles, were arrested.
The armed robbery occurred at around 9:45 p.m. July 9 on Roundtree Street.
"The victim, #1 Chinese Restaurant delivery driver, was attempting to make a delivery when he was approached by one of the offenders," Turner said. "Another male then approached the victim while displaying a handgun and struck the victim on the head while demanding money. The offenders took an undisclosed amount of U.S. currency from the victim and then fled on foot."
The victim then contacted police to report the crime. A report was taken and turned over to Statesboro police Detective Keith Holloway.
"Through further investigation ... Holloway secured warrants and charged six people with armed robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime," Turner said.
One juvenile, living on Denmark Street, is now 17 but was 16 at the time the crime occurred. The other juveniles, one from Johnson Street and another from Miller Street Extension, are 16.
This month has seen a string of armed robberies of restaurant delivery drivers, nearly all of them in Statesboro.
Eight days after the #1 Chinese Restaurant driver was robbed, a Jimmy John's delivery driver was held up when he was trying to make a delivery at Cambridge at Southern on July 17. A Domino's Pizza delivery driver was robbed at gunpoint on July 18 at Seasons Apartments.
And minutes after another Jimmy John's delivery driver was robbed in the 100 block of Thomkin Drive on July 24, Christopher Antwoine Wilson, 19, of Garden District Apartments, was arrested in connection with that incident. The Bulloch County Sheriff's Office said Wilson brandished a stun gun and threatened to stun the driver before robbing her of a quantity of money.
Wilson also was charged in the July 17 robbery of a Jimmy John's driver and the July 8 holdup of a Don Corleone pizza delivery driver at Cambridge at Southern, the sheriff's office said.
