Three men -- two armed with guns -- invaded an apartment just after midnight Tuesday, leaving with $700 and a cellphone.

Statesboro Public Safety Director Wendell Turner said officers responded to University Pointe Apartments on Harvey Drive, near the campus of Georgia Southern University, around 12:17 a.m. and met with two female victims.

The women said three men forced their way into the apartment after someone answered a knock at the door.
The men, described as black, "came into the residence, brandished firearms and demanded money," Turner said. Once the door was opened, the men "rushed into the residence."

One of the suspects had "what appeared to be a shotgun and another suspect had a small handgun," he said. "The victims were held at gunpoint by the two suspects while the third suspect searched the residence."

The men ran from the apartment after taking $700 and a cellphone from the victims, according to a Nixle alert sent out shortly after the robbery.

The alert described the suspects as follows: one man stood about 5 feet 7 inches, weighed around 150 pounds and wore a gray hoodie; the second suspect stood about 5 feet 10 inches and weighed around 300 pounds, with dreadlocks; and the third man stood around 5 feet 7 inches and weighed about 180 pounds, wearing a dark hoodie.

Turner said the home invasion type armed robbery remains under investigation by the Statesboro Police Investigative Bureau, with Detective Kevin Weatherly leading the investigation.

"Initial investigation into this incident indicates that this incident is not related to the armed robbery of the Subway on Lanier Drive that occurred on March 21," Turner said.
