From comedy to horror to music videos, entries into the 2009 Statesboro Film Festival offer a mixture of short film making that should appeal to the taste of just about anyone.
On Thursday evening beginning with a reception at 6:30 p.m., the Statesboro Herald and the Averitt Center for the Arts will present the 2009 Statesboro Film Festival at the Averitt Center. The red carpet awards show will begin at 7 p.m. and 17 films will be screened. The films range in length from three minutes to eight minutes, the maximum allowed for entries.
Phil Boyum, co-star of the "Phil and Chad Show" on Studio Statesboro and a reporter for the Statesboro Herald, will be the master of ceremonies for the show. There will be a 15-minute intermission that will be catered by Statesboro restaurant 119 Chops.
After all the films are screened, awards will be presented for Best Editing, Best Cinematography, Best Director and Best Film, which will be determined by a panel of three expert judges. Finally, the Grand Prize — a big screen TV — will be awarded to the Viewers Choice winner.
Viewers Choice voting is well under way online. Go to www.statesborofilmfestival.com, watch the films and then vote for your favorite. People can vote up to 10 times per day from a single URL address. Voting is open through Wednesday at 5 p.m. The film with the most votes will be the Grand Prize winner.
Tickets for the April 16 film festival are $5 and can be purchased at the Averitt Center box office or by calling (912) 212-2787.
The 2009 Statesboro Film Festival is sponsored by the Statesboro Herald, the Averitt Center for the Arts, 119 Chops, Gailey Trophy and Connect Statesboro.
