The 2008 Firecracker Fest at Mill Creek Regional Park will celebrate the Fourth of July with its annual mix of games, activities and fireworks on Friday from 4-11 p.m.
The free event sponsored by the Statesboro-Bulloch County Parks and Recreation Department and Sea Island Bank, includes amusement games, music, community exhibitions, as well as the traditional Frog Jumping Contest and the Subway Sub Eating Contest. (If you plan on participating in the Frog Jumping Contest, please remember to bring your own frog!) For the finale, Briggs and Stratton will sponsor the fireworks show, which begins at 9 p.m. and is set to music simulcast on AM 1240.
Among many attractions, Firecracker Fest welcomes back Statesboro Karate and ATA to the 2008 community exhibition. Exhibitions are held from 5-8 p.m.
Music to get the feet moving early will be provided by 300 Miles, a rock/alternative band out of Twin City. Then, at 7:30 p.m. on Field 1, The Headliners will take the stage and perform a wide variety of music for the whole family. The Headliners are one of the most requested bands in the Southeast.
“Whether your preference is Big Band, classic 50s and 60s rock and roll, beach music, Motown, disco hits from the 70s to hits from the 90s, get ready to dance,” said Larry Perigo, manager for The Headliners.
The Firecracker Fest has been a Statesboro tradition for many years and been sponsored be Sea Island Bank for 15 years.
“The Firecracker Fest is a great event for people of all ages in our community,” said Mike Rollins, director of the rec department. “We are happy to carry on this Statesboro tradition with the help of Sea Island Bank and our other sponsors.”
