A 2-year-old boy suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries Saturday after being struck by a vehicle.

The child was airlifted to Savannah as a precaution, however, according to Georgia State Patrol Post 45 reports.

Around 5:19 p.m. Saturday, the child was walking near the roadway on Highway 80 near Roscoe Laircey Road when he stepped out into traffic, reports stated.

Dustin Leigh Cowart, 32, of Mallard Pond Road, saw the child and braked but skidded and traveled about 200 feet. The child tried to flee but was bumped by the skidding vehicle as it came to a rest, reports stated.

The incident is still being investigated, but no charges were filed against Cowart.
