2 killed Monday in separate accidents

Two people were killed Monday in separate automobile accidents in Statesboro.

Harold Shaun Phillips, 34, of Pooler, was killed early Monday morning on Veterans Memorial Parkway near Brannen Street, and Madelyn Neidlinger, 74, of Middleground Road, was killed when her car ran off Lakeview Road Monday night.

According to Georgia State Patrol reports released Thursday, Phillips was traveling north on Veterans Memorial Parkway near Brannen Street around 7:45 a.m. when his vehicle ran off the road and struck a tree on the east side of the road. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

Around 8:45 p.m. Monday, Neidlinger was traveling on Lakeview Road two miles north of Clito Road when her car ran off the road and traveled 221 feet along the east shoulder, reports stated.

After striking a mailbox, Neidlinger's car traveled another 110 feet, crossed both lanes of traffic on Lakeview Road, and struck a culvert. Then her car vaulted, overturned and came to rest in a private drive, according to reports. Neidlinger was pronounced dead at the scene.
