2 arrested in Foxridge shooting
Trenton Carter

Less than 24 hours after a man was shot at a local apartment complex, Statesboro police investigators arrested two suspects.

Around 8 p.m. Monday, police responded to Foxridge Apartments, where they found Jonathan Barnes, of Pooler, "who had been shot in the pelvic area," Statesboro Public Safety Director Wendell Turner said.

Barnes was taken to the hospital with injuries not considered to be life-threatening, Turner said.

On Tuesday, Statesboro police Detective Kevin Wadley arrested Courtney Spann, 21, of Oakwood Drive, and Trenton Carter, 24, of Georgia Highway 24, in connection with the shooting. Both were arrested without incident and were taken to the Bulloch County Jail, each charged with aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during a crime, and possession of a firearm within 1,000 feet of a housing project.

A 911 call from someone reporting "multiple gun shots fired" resulted in police responding to the apartments on Packinghouse Road near U.S. Highway 301 North.

"Upon arrival Statesboro Police Officer Louis Parker located (the victim, who) told (officers) that the incident stemmed from a physical altercation that occurred earlier in the day with two other males," Turner said.

Officers and detectives searched the area and interviewed several witnesses and determined there were no other victims; however, there were at least four vehicles that appeared to be damaged by gun fire, he said.

The Statesboro Police Department Investigations Bureau is investigating the case. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Kevin Wadley at (912) 764-9911.
