Statesboro police arrested a 12-year-old Friday on charges of child molestation.

Around 6:41 p.m. Friday, officers responded to an Oak Street residence regarding a 12-year-old who allegedly acted inappropriately with a 13-year-old victim, said Statesboro police Chief Mike Broadhead.

"The initial responding officers spoke with the complainant and determined that the incident involved a juvenile victim and an alleged juvenile offender. All persons involved in this case were transported to the Statesboro Police Department for further investigation," he said.

Further investigation by Detective Keith Holloway resulted in the 12-year-old being arrested and charged with three counts of misdemeanor child molestation.

The charges are misdemeanors due to the ages of the suspect and victim, said SPD Capt. James Winskey.

Holloway notified the Department of Juvenile Justice and the Department of Family and Children Services of the incident and the arrest. The offender was transported to a youth detention center, pending further actions by the court.

"Investigation into this incident is ongoing," Broadhead said.
