Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Matthews Jr. of Sylvania are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Laura Elizabeth Matthews, to Glenn Jarret Nessmith, son of Mr. and Mrs. Marion Hulsey and Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Nessmith, all of Statesboro.
    Miss Matthews is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Marion F. Freeman Jr. and the late Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur C. Matthews Sr., all of Sylvania. She is a 1997 graduate of Screven County High School and is a graduate of Ogeechee Technical College. She is currently attending Georgia Southern University and is employed with Serenity Day Spa and Salon in Statesboro.
    Mr. Nessmith is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. E.K. Bell, the late Mr. and Mrs. Ben Grady Nessmith, the late Mr. and Mrs. M.C. Hulsey and Mrs. Willie L. Fowler and the late T.D. Fowler. He is a 1997 graduate of Bulloch Academy and Ogeechee Technical College. He is employed with Hulsey-Johnston Appraisal Services in Statesboro as a certified real estate appraiser.
    The wedding is planned for 6:30 p.m. on June 6, 2009, at the First United Methodist Church of Sylvania. A reception will follow at Roy and Deborah Thompson Farms on Old River Road in Statesboro.
