Mr. and Mrs. Jim Chao of Beaumont, Texas, announce the engagement of their daughter, Ginger, to James Andrew Rakestraw, son of Dr. and Mrs. James Rakestraw of Statesboro.
The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chih-Chung Kin and the late Mr. and Mrs. Ping-Chang Chao. Ginger was valedictorian at West Brook High School in Beaumont, Texas, in 1998. She received a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Rice University in 2002, followed by a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2007. She is currently employed as a scientist at Adnexus in Waltham, Mass.
The groom-elect is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Schilling of Statesboro, the late Berry Fant Schilling of Gulfport, Miss., and the late Mr. and Mrs. Louis Rakestraw of Marietta, Ga. Andy is a 1996 graduate of Statesboro High. He graduated with highest honors with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology before receiving a Ph.D. in Biological Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2006. Andy is currently employed as a scientific consultant for Flagship Ventures, a venture capital firm in Cambridge, Mass.
The wedding will take place in Houston, Texas, on October 31, 2009, with a reception to follow.
The couple will reside in Cambridge, Mass.
