Mr. and Mrs. Derick Sharpe
Courtney Akins became the bride of Derick Sharpe during a 6 p.m. ceremony held on June 21, 2008, at the First Baptist Church in Statesboro. Dr. H. William Perry officiated.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Akins of Statesboro and is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul S. Akins of Statesboro and the late Mr. and Mrs. William F. Ethridge of Brunswick.
The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Sharpe of Guyton and is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Page, the late Mrs. Jane Peacock Page and Mr. O.F. Sharpe and the late Mrs. Shirley Kessler Sharpe.
Given in marriage by her parents, Courtney wore a Maggie Sottero wedding dress featuring a one-piece, strapless, full A-line gown with corset back. Fluid Vienna organza asymmetrically accented the waist, creating a pleated cutaway design on the skirt. Embroidered lace accented the bodice and ornamented the waist and flowed down, creating the hem of the gown and chapel-length train. Adorning the bustline of the dress were custom-made cap sleeves of French silk tulle and lace with hand-sewn beading.
Susan Durden and Katelyn Akins served as maids of honor. Bridesmaids were Madeleine Akins, Catherine Morgan Akins and Elizabeth Bowan.
The bridesmaids' dresses were strapless chiffon in black with separated ruching on the bodice featuring a coral accent sash at the drop waist.
Michael Sharpe served as his son's best man. Groomsmen were Jeremy Turner, Erin Purvis, David Sharpe, Jarrod Akins and James Cave. Jacob Dempsey served as ring bearer.
Following the ceremony, a reception was held at the Nessmith-Lane Building.
The couple honeymooned in Mexico and now resides in Statesboro.
