Statesboro forms its first community fire brigade

The Bulloch Herald of April 13, 1900 announced that there was going to be an effort to organize Statesboro’s first-ever organized fire brigades. It stated that members of the Kell Rifles were “Taking Steps to that End.” Known as “The Kell Rifles” were Company F. of the 3rd Battalion, 1st Regiment, of the Georgia Volunteer Infantry. Their captain was W. H. Blitch Jr.
