Have you ever been in an empty room? Of course not; if you were in it, it wasn’t empty!
“Empty” has more than one meaning in everyday use.
-- If an apartment is vacant, it is empty of inhabitants.
-- Some believe their lives are empty of meaning or significance, which simply isn’t true — every single life has meaning, especially to God, who wants us to know the significance he intends for it.
-- Promises are empty if not made with sincerity.
-- If something has little or no discernible value or purpose, it may be futile or empty.
Many seem to believe the universe is a lot of empty space. Literally, if one looks through the eye of faith for evidence of his presence, there is no place in God's creation where he is invisible.
Without God, without a “First Cause,” (check it out on Google) there is nothing — nil, zero, zilch, nada, naught — period, end of discussion. Almost everyone, with some exceptions, knows the visible universe has lots of things in it. In fact, some suggest it’s pretty crowded “out there.” Powerful telescopes allow men to look at objects light years away.
Do you remember your physics and/or science classes? Light travels at the astounding rate of 186,000 miles per second! According to Albert Einstein, this never changes. Don’t look for a speedometer to check it out!
Even considering these almost unbelievable speeds and distances, the physical universe has a physical limit. But what’s beyond that? Is there a blank wall? If so, where did the wall originate? Does the wall have two sides? Is the wall painted? If so, who chose the color? Caution: this just may keep you up at night! God Almighty, creator of heaven and earth, is amazing, isn’t he?
The writer of Psalm 146 said, “Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the LORD his God, who made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, ….”
Yes, he made everything in the universal realm, from the smallest proton to the largest mountain. Nothing is beyond his creative ability.
The important thing we need to remember here is, he created people, you and me.
King David wrote, “When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him? Yet you have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor” (Psalm 8:3-5).
God wants us to live with purpose, focusing on him and his will. As Solomon, king of Israel and son of former king David said in the conclusion of his wisdom sayings (Ecclesiastes), “The end of the matter; all has been heard. Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man” (12:13).
When we love God with our heart, soul, strength and mind (Luke 10:27), we are following Solomon’s wisdom in the best way possible, and our lives won’t be empty, but full “to the brim.”
