I was only 6 when my family moved from Mikell Street and yet it remains, all these years later, my neighborhood. The people who lived on that street and the one behind it, College Lane remain, all these years later, my people. So I don’t suppose that the sadness that rose up in me when I heard the news of the death of one of my early playmates should have been totally unexpected.
