Kick-Off gets GSU's newest Eagles ready for some football
Georgia Southern University President Kyle Marerro tries his hand at leading cheers during the President's Kick-Off event at Paulson Stadium Sept. 18.

The President's Kick-Off was held at Georgia Southern University's Paulson Stadium Sept. 18, prepping the newest students on campus for the Eagles' upcoming season.

After a scrimmage by the football team, the Southern Pride marching band, cheerleaders and fall sports athletes taught the classic cheers and gameday traditions to the new crop of students. Immediately following was an autograph session.

The event was highlighted by the traditional flight of GSU mascot eagle, Freedom.

GSU's Eagles begin this season with a matchup against LSU at 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 31 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The first home game will be against Maine on Sept. 7 at Paulson Stadium. Fans on campus and all over Statesboro are asked to paint the town blue that day. The game, set to begin at 6 p.m., is themed "Night of Champions" and features an all sports reunion.
