Scare on the Square has become an annual tradition for all Statesboro residents — living and undead.

The area around the courthouse shuts down each year for a hayride, costume contests, trunk-or-treating, a haunted house and pumpkin patch interactive activities.

The lead sponsor for the event was Zaxby's, and Georgia Southern University students volunteered, providing games and activities, and manning booths with candy and prizes.

The best part of the night each year the annual "Thriller" street dance parade, a crowd favorite, which brings local residents out in their best zombie gear to perform to the Michael Jackson hit.

This year's event, held Oct. 27, also featured a performance by the Statesboro Youth Chorale, as well as Chyann Rose, nominated for Georgia Country Teen Artist of the Year. Rose performed at Eagle Creek Brewery.
