October 7, 2010


The Bulloch County Board of Education met in a Special Session Meeting on Thursday, October 7, 2010 at 6:30 p.m. in the Board Room at the Central Office for an Employee Hearing. Board members present were as follows: Edwin Hill, Kenny Stone, David Ball, Scott Bohlke, Maurice Hill, Mike Herndon and Vernon Littles. Superintendent Lewis Holloway and Board Attorney Susan Cox were also present. Susan Riley was absent.

After review and testimony by the Superintendent and witnesses, recommendation by the superintendent that Ms. Darlington be terminated. Upon motion by Scott Bohlke, and second by Mike Herndon, the Board unanimously voted to enter into executive session to discuss or deliberate upon the appointment, employment, compensation, hiring, disciplinary action or dismissal, or periodic evaluation or rating of a public officer or employee, (O.C.G.A. 50-14-3(6)). Board Members present at the time of executive session were as follows: David Ball, Kenny Stone, Edwin Hill, Maurice Hill, Scott Bohlke, Mike Herndon and Vernon Littles. (7:0)

Upon motion by Scott Bohlke, and second by Maurice Hill, the Board unanimously voted to return to open session. Board members present at the time of the return to open session were as follows: David Ball, Kenny Stone, Edwin Hill, Scott Bohlke, Maurice Hill, Mike Herndon and Vernon Littles. (7:0)

Upon motion by Kenny Stone, and second by Vernon Littles, the Board voted unanimously to adopt the following findings: There is sufficient evidence to support a finding and thereby sustain the charges in the letter from Dr. Lewis Holloway that Twindell Darlington acted in such a manner as to constitute willful neglect of duties, any other good and sufficient cause and a violation of Code of Ethics for Educators Standard 10. As punishment for the aforementioned violations, Ms. Darlington shall receive: a written reprimand and be suspended without pay for the period of time beginning Friday, October 08, 2010 and ending Monday, January 31, 2011 for a total of 60 days. Before returning to the classroom, Ms. Darlington shall complete an anger management course to be selected by the Superintendent, and that Ms. Darlington be transferred by the Superintendent to another school following her suspension. There being no further business, upon motion by Mike Herndon, and second by Edwin Hill, the Board unanimously voted to adjourn the meeting. (7:0)
