Teen arrested for stabbing juvenile at Statesboro High

A teenage male involved in a stabbing at Statesboro High School on Monday is in jail, arrested without incident on aggravated assault charges, said Statesboro police Chief Mike Broadhead.

Around 12:15 p.m. Monday, the 17-year-old reportedly attacked a juvenile victim, Broadhead said. School officials called police, who found the victim suffering from “a puncture wound to the back that was treated by school staff and did not require hospitalization,” he said.

Broadhead did not identify the suspect on Tuesday, listing him as a juvenile, although by law, a 17-year-old’s identity regarding criminal charges is public record. Broadhead was not immediately available for comment Tuesday after the arrest was announced.

The teen was charged with aggravated assault and possession of a deadly weapon in a school safety zone.

Anyone with information concerning this case is asked to contact the Statesboro Police Department at (912) 764-9911.

Anonymous tips may be submitted online at or by texting “TIPSSPD” followed by the message to 274637 (CRIMES). All information is strictly confidential, he said.
