13 sentenced in federal meth roundup

Last week, United States District Court Judge Lisa Godbey Wood sentenced the last of 13 area defendants in a South Georgia methamphetamine trafficking ring to federal prison for their involvement in the crimes.

The defendants were convicted as part of a joint federal and state operation targeting methamphetamine trafficking in South Georgia, said acting U.S. Attorney Jim Durham.

Several defendants were from Bulloch and neighboring counties.

He commended the work of the agencies involved in the joint federal-state investigation, including the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the Bryan County Sheriff's Office, the Effingham County Sheriff's Office, the Chatham-Savannah Counter Narcotics Team, the Statesboro-Bulloch Crime Suppression Team, the Richmond Hill Police Department and the Pembroke Police Department.

The Rincon Police Department and the United States Marshals Service also assisted in the case.
