Sky Country, a component of the United States Air Force Band of the West, will perform a concert at the Carl Vinson VA Medical Center in Dublin at 2 p.m. Sept. 3 in the medical center auditorium. The concert is free and open to the public.

Stationed at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas and formed to tell the Air Force story through music, the band draws from multiple musical genres, including country, R&B, rock and jazz, and has performed with musical artists such as Trace Adkins, Reba McEntire, Kelly Clarkson and Brad Paisley.

According to Dublin VA Recreation Services supervisor Cesci Jones, bringing Sky Country to the medical center is one way that the VA arranges to bring entertainment to its veterans who might not be able to get out.

"Many of our veterans aren't as mobile as they once were, so it's important that we make entertainment opportunities as convenient for them as possible," Jones said. "In many cases, they no longer have family or friends to assist them, so we have to be their family."

VA public affairs supervisor Dr. Frank G. Jordan Jr. emphasized that Sky Country's performance is just one example of how the VA and the military work together to continue honoring veterans even after their service. He added that the medical center is always looking for volunteers to help make sure its veterans have activities available to them.

"There are a lot of caring, patriotic, and talented people in Middle Georgia, and we welcome them to bring their talents to our medical center for the benefit of our veterans," Jordan said.
