For the second year in a row, Georgia Southern University was ranked as one of the top 10 most popular universities in the nation by “U.S. News and World Report.” Georgia Southern tied with Yale for the number seven spot on this year’s list.
    Other universities on the top 10 list include Harvard, Stanford and Brigham Young. Georgia Southern was ranked ahead of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and the University of Pennsylvania, and was the only university from the southern United States to make the top 10 list.
    “Georgia Southern University continues to be recognized around the United States as a leader in higher education,” said Georgia Southern President Brooks Keel, Ph.D. “Students know when they enroll in Georgia Southern they will have tremendous academic and research opportunities that will prepare them to be leaders in their field. We are proud that this great university continues to provide an outstanding experience for our students, as this recognition by U.S. News and World Report shows.”
    The U.S. News and World Report rankings are based on the number of students who are accepted and then opt to enroll in a particular college.  The latest rankings were based on the fall 2010 semester when Georgia Southern’s enrollment rate was 65.9 percent.
    Also, U.S. News ranked Georgia Southern’s Master of Science in Nursing — Family Nurse Practitioner program in the top 20 nationally.
    The program also had the highest ranking among all colleges and universities in Georgia — both public and private.
    GSU’s program is included in the top 20 along with those at Yale University, Duke University, University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, Columbia University and Johns Hopkins University to name a few. 
    And the university’s online graduate programs in business, education, information technology and nursing were ranked among the nation’s best in the first-ever edition of Top Online Education Program rankings by U.S. News & World Report.
