A man defying orders from a Bulloch County Sheriff's deputy at a road check ended up shot with a Taser, then arrested, said Bulloch County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Gene McDaniel.
And when Sheriff's Cpl. Jared Akins found what the man had been trying to hide, drug charges were added to the man's alleged offenses.
Tobass Porter, 27, Twin Forks Road, was charged with aggravated assault with a motor vehicle on an officer, cocaine possession with intent to distribute, obstruction, reckless driving, parole violation, possession and use of a drug related object.
Around 3:15 p.m. Saturday, Akins and others were conducting a road safety check on Lanier Drive when Porter approached in a 1989 Oldsmobile Delta 88. He stopped where Akins was standing, and Akins saw him trying to conceal something in his hand, McDaniel said.
Porter's eyes appeared bloodshot and watery, and there were questions about his license and inability to produce proof of insurance, he said. He pulled over at Akin's request, but refused orders to shut off his car. Akins told him to put the car in park and exit, but Porter shifted into drive. Akins reached in to shift the car into park and Porter "stepped on the gas" and  dragged him, McDaniel said.
Two other deputies ran to help and between the three, they managed to get the car shifted into neutral and used a Taser to subdue Porter, who was was fighting them, he said.
When they took Porter out of the car to place him under arrest, deputies found cocaine and drug paraphernalia in the seat, he said.
Akins was not injured in the scuffle.
Since Porter was on parole, and his charges violated parole requirements, a hold was also placed on him regarding parole, McDaniel said. Porter was taken to the Bulloch County Jail, where he is being held without bond.
