Chris Mitchell's vision of a state-of-the-art commercial recording studio at Pladd Dot Music on North Main is a reality as Mitchell just recently released the fourth full CD produced and engineered there.
"Our latest CD is by the Chester Project," Mitchell said. "Prior to that, my wife Ashlee released a lullaby album. We have recorded a CD for Mary Hannah, and a spoken word disc by local author Kathy Bradley."
In addition to recording, producing, and engineering, Mitchell's company Pladd Dot Records also does the graphic design of the CD covers.
"I just think it is important to bring all of the facets in together when helping someone produce their music or words," he said. "We want them to be able to come in here and leave with a finished product that they are very proud of."
Steve Chester said Mitchell was very instrumental in the Chester Project CD.
"Chris and I started working on this album three years ago," Chester said. "With schedules and work, we really didn't get to it until just recently. The studio was wonderful, and Chris helped with every aspect of the CD's production. He even played some on it. I was very impressed with the whole process. Chris has a great ear."
Chester said although his CD is inspirational and geared to churches and people of faith, it is different from what would be considered traditional praise and worship music.
I have listened to it, and I would have to agree. There are even songs on it that to me are reminiscent of the Allman Brothers. The whole CD is great.
I have to be honest though, what really amazed me was the quality of the sound on it. I did not think that anything could be produced here that sounded that "crisp and clean". It is a beautifully produced work.
Just like everywhere, our area is experiencing its own set of economic setbacks. So it is really encouraging to me that we can have a recording studio and music operation that is doing as well as Mitchell's is.
Mitchell has won a couple of awards lately and deservedly so - Statesboro Bulloch County Chamber of Commerce Small Business Entrepreneur of the Year and the Downtown Statesboro Development Authority's Brick Winner for Best Renovation.
But you know, it's the little things about people that you remember. As excited as Mitchell was about all of the bustle going on around his business and the full length CD's that are being recorded, he was the most excited about the two young ladies who came into his studio and paid for two hours of studio time to make a recording of a song for their dad for Father's day.
"They each paid $40 and were able to take home an original song recorded and mastered for their dad," he said. "How cool is that!"
