Kate and Dale Job Advice

Dear Kate & Dale: I am discouraged and floundering. I've had a number of interviews but cannot say any of the opportunities are my dream job. I am in, and am prepared to stay in, the fashion industry (and do not consider this a bad thing). I probably need advice from others in the industry if I am ever going to find the right situation, but I am not in a business that is friendly. Despite Kate's theory that "people are generally willing to help you," that doesn't often apply in the fashion business. – June

Job Advice with Kate and Dale

Dear Kate & Dale: My sister can get fired or quit and have a new job within weeks. I, however, have been looking for nearly a year. My sister says she never tells prospective employers that she was fired, because they can verify only whether or not you worked at the company. Is this true, and would you recommend it? It seems dishonest, but I am the one still looking for employment. -- Shon

Job Advice with Kate and Dale

Dear Kate & Dale: How can my husband salvage his career? He was a college soccer coach who was released when his assistant coach made recruiting violations. He and the school agreed to state that he was leaving to "pursue another position." Other positions have not lived up to his standards and to make matter worse, he was released from an elementary-school position due to an outburst of anger; then he received a DUI, which resulted in a suspended license. Yes, he's in therapy, but he desperately needs employment. – Alicia
