Georgia Southern slugged its way into a fourth seed for this week's Southern Conference baseball tournament, and how far the Eagles go will likely depend on the shakiest part of their game so far - pitching.

GSU draws UNCG in first round of SoCon tourney

Fourth-seeded Georgia Southern opens play in the Southern Conference baseball tournament Wednesday, drawing fifth-seeded UNC Greensboro for a first-round matchup. The tournament will be held at Joseph P. Riley Jr. Park in Charleston, S.C.

The Eagles (32-23, 16-11) concluded their regular season Saturday, falling at Furman to drop the series 2-1. Prior to this weekend, GSU had won four-straight SoCon series, most recently a home sweep of UNCG just over a week ago.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Georgia Southern grabbed an early lead but Jacksonville scored eight unanswered runs during the middle innings in a 9-4 decision Tuesday night at Sessions Stadium. The Eagles dropped to 31-21 overall while JU moved above .500 at 27-26.

GSU softball's SoCon title hopes put on hold

MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – Georgia Southern's Southern Conference title hopes were put on hold Saturday afternoon by a clutch-hitting Chattanooga team.

The top-seeded Mocs plated the game-winning run with one out in the bottom seventh to down GSU 3-2 in the league tournament's championship game, forcing a deciding matchup slated to begin around 3:40 p.m. Saturday.

My Take: Bowl decision still pending for Georgia Southern

There's only 10 FBS conferences, and Georgia Southern is the champion of one of them. Only the Eagles, Florida State and Ohio State went through their conference schedules unbeaten, and that's saying something.
