Jackets pick up region victory

BROOKLET - Starting pitcher David McCarthy allowed only three runs and threw 92 pitches over five innings, and Fisher Strickland crossed the plate three times and earned the save as the Southeast Bulloch Yellow Jackets (6-4, 2-3) knocked off the Westside Patriots (11-4, 3-3) 8-5 in a Tuesday night Region 3-AA contest.

Lakeside spoils Senior Night at SHS

Statesboro's offensive woes continued Tuesday night, and the Blue Devils couldn't overcome a first-half goal falling 1-0 to visiting Lakeside at Womack Field. The loss spoiled Senior Night for SHS, which fell to 3-4 in Region 3-AAAA play.

SHS girls also struggle offensively

Lakeside's speed and skill was too much for the Lady Blue Devils of Statesboro Tuesday night as the Lady Panthers beat SHS 4-0. Lakeside scored two goals in each half en route to the victory, spoiling Senior Night.

Richmond Hill sweeps SHS

Greyson Surges' goal off the hands of Statesboro keeper Jake Lanier in the 67th minute gave Richmond Hill a 1-0 win over SHS Saturday afternoon at Womack Field in non-region play. Surges' shot from 22 yards out tailed away from Lanier who was able to get two hands on the ball, but the backspin on the kick carried the shot over Lanier's head where it trickled into the corner of the net.

Portal stays undefeated in region play

PORTAL - A moment of silence before the first pitch in remembrance of fallen Bryan County classmates who died in a car accident on Wednesday outside of Pembroke brought the Redskins (4-6, 1-2) onto the diamond with heavy hearts, and the Portal Panthers (7-5, 4-0) were able to increase their perfect region 3-A record to 4-0.
