Blue Devils overachieve

The Statesboro Blue Devils ended their season with a 71-50 loss to Griffin Thursday night in the second round of the GHSA Class AAAA state tournament. Their performance was not very impressive that night, but considering what type of team head coach Lee Hill had this year, an 18-12 finish and a run to the second round of the state tourney was more than he could have hoped for.

MACON - Too much speed, too much size and too much talent - the Griffin Bears (17-10) jumped out early on Statesboro and never looked back, advancing to the Elite 8 of the GHSA Class AAAA tournament Thursday night at Mercer University with a 71-50. Griffin will face North Clayton Saturday at 5:30 p.m. for a chance at the Final Four.

Portal advances again

When it comes to milking the clock it is evident the Portal basketball team is not made up of a group of farmers.

The Panthers moved to within one game of making their first ever appearance in the Final Four of the boys Class A state basketball tournament as they held on down the stretch Thursday night to beat Atkinson County, 65-53, at Savannah State University.
Coach Jeff Brannen's Panthers (23-8) will meet Terrell County (21-10) Saturday afternoon at 5:30 at SSU's Tiger Arena for the right to advance to next week's tournament at the Macon ...

Statesboro senior Morgan Doty knows his role. The 6-foot-3 senior has come off the bench for most of the 2006-2007 season. After a good few days of practice last week, Doty earned a start against upstart Whitewater in the first round of the AAAA state tournament.

Yellow Jackets slip by Panthers
