Local Roundup: Lady Gamecocks advance to state

Three Lady Gamecocks scored in double figures to lead Screven County to a 61-21 win over Jefferson County Wednesday in the region 3-AA tournament at Josey. The win secured a trip to the state playoffs for Screven, which improved to 22-4. Kadedra Evans scored 12 points while Ashley Loundy and Kiki Warren added 10 apiece for the Lady Gamecocks, who continue tournament play at Josey Friday with a 4 p.m. game against Swainsboro.

The Statesboro High girls' basketball team secured a trip to the state playoffs with a 52-49 win at Ware County in Region 3-AAAA tournament action Tuesday. Gwennetta Jones led the Lady Devils with 16 points, while Victoria Mikell added 14 and Monnette Bennett scored 11. SHS continues tournament play at Richmond Academy on Friday against an opponent to be determined.

Screven wins big over SEB

SYLVANIA – In a night set aside to honor Screven County's seniors, neither team disappointed. The Lady Gamecocks (21-4, 11-3) demolished the visiting Lady Yellow Jackets of Southeast Bulloch (8-14, 7-7) 72-22, wrapping up a very successful regular season and sending the Lady Gamecocks into the region 3-AA playoffs with an air of confidence.
