Georgia's firearm season for deer hunting is open and about 300,000 folks will hit the woods over the coming months in pursuit of the state's number one big game animal. Those who use firearms to take deer far outnumber other styles of hunting as they make up over 95 percent of the total number of deer hunters. Those people will most likely bag over 80 percent of the harvest this season and thus the deer hunting season gets underway in earnest this weekend.
