BA's Collins signs with Furman

Bulloch Academy's Taylor Collins, center, is joined by her parents, Russell and Mary Collins, as she signs a national letter of intent to play softball for Furman University next season. For the last five years - GISA schools allow eighth-graders to compete in varsity sports - Collins has been a cornerstone of the Lady Gators. She dominated the diamond throughout her career, garnering all-state honors in each of the last four seasons and finishing as runner-up for Player of the Year this past fall. South Ga. Elite 14U wins tourney

The South Georgia Elite girls 14U softball team recently won The Vidalia Pride in The Game Tournament on April 21. The team is coached by Charles Greer and Jon Dasher of Statesboro. The team consist of girls from Statesboro, Lyons, Metter and Glennville. This is the second first-place finish for the team in the past three tournaments. Team members, standing left to right, are Alivia Collins, Ansley Donaldson, Aryn McGowan, Kristin Allen, Abigail Bland, and Erin Howard. Team members, kneeling left to right, are Hannah Fox, Hannah Dasher, Callie Thompson,Maggie Greer, and Brooke Russell.
