BA girls win region title, boys finish in 3rd place

AUGUSTA - Bulloch Academy ended a 32-year drought Saturday night when the Lady Gators captured their first region basketball title since 1980 with a 42-30 victory over the Westminster Lady Wildcats.

BA junior-varsity boys win championship

STILLMORE – The Bulloch Academy junior-varsity boys' basketball team won the East Georgia Middle School Conference championship Feb. 4. In the tournament, which was held at David Emanuel Academy, the top-seeded Gators got a first-round bye, crushed Thomas Jefferson Academy, 52-17, in the semifinals and defeated Edmund Burke Academy, 43-27, in the title game. Hunter Perry scored 20 points and Lanier Olliff added 11 points in the Thomas Jefferson game. Goals established

In 2010, a young group emerged to give Statesboro's girls soccer team a big step forward. Last season, region realignment brought some dominating new teams into the Lady Blue Devils' region, and a year after going 10-5 and advancing to the state playoffs, the Devils slipped to 5-10.

Athlete of the Week: BA's Hendrix wins state title

Last February, Bulloch Academy's Daniel Hendrix breezed through the 112-pound weight class to earn himself a state title. This season, Hendrix bumped up two weight classes, but kept his accomplishments at their same spectacular level.
