Eagles fall short of national title bid

OCALA, Fla. - The Georgia Southern Eagles recorded a 1-over, 289 final round on Saturday to cap off its season with an eighth-place finish in the NCAA Southeast Regional. Senior Logan Blondell guided the Eagles to a 4-under 860 team total (285-286-289) by firing a 209 (-7) to finish in a sixth-place tie. Florida, playing host to the 14-team field at the par-72 6,994-yard Golden Ocala Golf Club, won the tournament with an 18-under 846.

Eagles stay in contention

OCALA, Fla. - Georgia Southern stayed within striking distance of the top five on Friday, by firing a second-round 286 (-2) to put the Eagles in a sixth-place tie with Kennesaw State at 5-under at the 2011 NCAA Southeast Regional. Freshman Hayden Anderson shot a career-low 69 (-3) at the par-72 Golden Ocala Golf Club to help Georgia Southern stay in contention. Defending National Champion Augusta State leads the 14-team field with an 11-under 565. N.C. App. State rallies for win over GSU

BOONE, N.C. - Appalachian State (31-24, 15-14) rallied to score five runs in the eighth inning to come from behind to take the final regular-season series from Georgia Southern (31-23, 17-12) with a 8-6 win on Friday. The Eagles had opportunities against ASU starter Austin Hyatt to pad on a few more runs in the first half of the game, but stranded 14 baserunners. GSU closes the regular season tomorrow with a 1 p.m. game at the Mountaineers' Smith Stadium.
