GREENSBORO, N.C. -Georgia Southern's drive for a third-straight Southern Conference softball tournament championship came to an end on Friday afternoon with an 11-2 loss to UNC Greensboro. A five-run second inning opened the door for the loss which eliminated the top-seeded Eagles from the tournament.

The Eagles, firmly in the driver's seat in their half of the bracket can advance to Saturday's final with one win against UNCG or Furman in Friday's round.

Purvis no-hits Elon at SoCon tourney

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Georgia Southern opened the 2014 SoCon Tournament with an historical 4-0 win over Elon. Sarah Purvis cemented her name in SoCon lore with the first no-hitter in tournament history. The three-time SoCon Pitcher of the Year fanned 13 batters on the day as the Eagles advance to the tournament's second day in the winner's bracket. The Eagles face Samford today at 4:30 p.m.
