Local Roundup: GSU's Beene to chair NCAA tennis

Georgia Southern senior woman administrator for athletics Cathy Beene has been elected to chair the NCAA Men's and Women's Tennis Committee for the 2011-2012 athletics season pending approval of the NCAA Division I Championships/Sport Management Cabinet. A member of the committee since 2009, Beene ascends to the leadership role for her final year on the committee. This will be Beene's second stint as chair for the committee, serving from 1993-1997 while coaching tennis at the Division I level.

SoCon television contract goes public

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Southern Conference, in conjunction with its marketing partner CSE, announced Monday the league has agreed to a three-year plan with public television systems in Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina to televise the conference's football package. The distribution platform will reach nearly 11 million homes through 32 affiliates, making it the largest regional distribution option across both broadcast and cable. The conference's football package for the 2011 season was also announced as part of the agreement.

WZAT to join GSU network

Georgia Southern Athletics added ESPN 102.1 WZAT in Savannah to its list of football affiliates for the Georgia Southern Radio Network for 2011-2012 announced Thursday. WZAT is one of the most powerful FM stations in Georgia, and will provide the Eagle Football program with coverage in the Savannah/Hilton Head market and into both Florida and South Carolina.

WBMZ set to be flagship network

Georgia Southern Athletics announced today, July 5th, that WBMZ 103.7 The Boomer will serve as the flagship station for the Georgia Southern Radio Network for the upcoming 2011-2012 year. WBMZ 103.7 The Boomer is owned and operated by Radio Metter, Inc., and will start by airing the preseason edition of "Inside Georgia Southern Football" with Coach Jeff Monken in late August. The game day football broadcasts begin on Saturday, September 3rd, with the Eagles' season opener at Samford.
