CHARLESTON, S.C. -- One thing's clear -- Georgia Southern's power numbers are down this season.
Three student-athletes have transferred to Georgia Southern and have enrolled in summer classes at the University. Ryan Byrne, a sophomore from Woodstock, Ga., John Douglas, a junior from Augusta, Ga. and Billy Greer, a junior kicker from Crosby, Texas, have joined the Eagle football team. Byrne will play at offensive guard with Douglas slated for defensive end.
This isn't usually the type of column that ties in a lot of pop-culture references with the sports happening around the community, but as I watched the series finale of "Lost" Sunday night - yeah, all two-and-a-half unfortunate hours of it (couldn't they have aired it at, like, seven o'clock instead of nine?) - it got me thinking about life, story telling, character development, narrative and, inevitably, Georgia Southern's baseball season.
Georgia Southern first baseman Kyle Blackburn, a senior, was named First Team All-Southern Conference, as voted upon by the league's head coaches. The Southern Conference office announced the selections on Monday.
