Eagles shoot 9-over, contending after first round

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Georgia Southern senior golfer Spence Fulford headlined first round action for the Eagles at the 2010 NCAA Golf Championships (June 1). Fulford carded a 1-under 71 pacing GS to a 9-over 297 effort on opening day action at The Honors Course, a par 72, 7,395-yard layout.

Off to Title Town, Chattanooga

Today marks the beginning of the 2010 NCAA Men's Golf Championship to be held at the Honors Course in Ooltewah near Chattanooga, Tenn., and Georgia Southern is one of just 30 teams that remain in the hunt for a national title, returning to the championships for the first time since 2005.

Three SoCon squads head to regionals

CHARLESTON, S.C. - A record three Southern Conference baseball teams earned bids to the NCAA Baseball Championship, it was announced on Monday. The Citadel, which claimed the league's automatic bid by winning the SoCon Baseball Championship on Sunday, was joined by at-large bid recipients College of Charleston and Elon.

Three student-athletes have transferred to Georgia Southern and have enrolled in summer classes at the University. Ryan Byrne, a sophomore from Woodstock, Ga., John Douglas, a junior from Augusta, Ga. and Billy Greer, a junior kicker from Crosby, Texas, have joined the Eagle football team. Byrne will play at offensive guard with Douglas slated for defensive end.

My Take - Lost, baseball and GSU Eagles

This isn't usually the type of column that ties in a lot of pop-culture references with the sports happening around the community, but as I watched the series finale of "Lost" Sunday night ­- yeah, all two-and-a-half unfortunate hours of it (couldn't they have aired it at, like, seven o'clock instead of nine?) - it got me thinking about life, story telling, character development, narrative and, inevitably, Georgia Southern's baseball season.
