Local Roundup: Lady Eagles drop visiting Furman

Georgia Southern battled back from a 22-15 deficit in the fourth set and erased three match points for a 26-24 set win to force a deciding fifth set. The Volleyball Eagles controlled the final set for a 15-9 victory, edging Southern Conference foe Furman 3-2 (25-20, 21-25, 25-27, 26-24, 15-9) Thursday night in Hanner Fieldhouse. Bethany Sanford led all players with 21 kills as the Eagles remained perfect at home at 10-0 on the year. Georgia Southern improved to 19-7 overall and 10-1 in league play, while Furman dipped to 13-10, 7-4.

Eagles picked last by coaches in SoCon South

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Appalachian State and Wofford are the favorites to capture the Southern Conference's divisional men's basketball titles in 2010-11, according to a vote by the leagues head coaches. College of Charleston senior guard Andrew Goudelock was also named the SoCon Preseason Player of the Year as part of the preseason all-conference team.

Local Roundup - NDSU dumped for 6th home game

Georgia Southern Athletics has announced the cancellation of the September 17, 2011 North Dakota State football game originally scheduled to be played in Fargo, N.D. The contest was added to the Eagles' schedule to fill an opening created when East Tennessee State dropped its football program. Presbyterian College will replace North Dakota State in a game to be played at Paulson Stadium on October 22nd, giving the Eagles six home games for the 2011 campaign.
