Georgia Southern director of athletics Sam Baker announced the hiring of Nick Zieziula as the head coach of Eagles' men's tennis program. Zieziula (pronounced za-ZOO-la), who was a four-year letterwinner at The State University of New York at Buffalo, served as the assistant men's tennis coach at the University of Central Florida for the past two years.

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Georgia Southern defensive lineman Brent Russell was named to Phil Steele's Preseason FCS All-America second team as released by Steele's media organization. Russell was the College Sporting News FCS Freshman of the Year for 2009 and was selected to the All-Southern Conference first team by the SoCon Sports Media Association at the end of the season.
