Local Roundup: GSU S&D hosting Saturday meet

The Georgia Southern swimming and diving team (12-4) plays host to Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association (CCSA) foe North Florida Saturday, at the GSU Recreation Activity Center. The 16-event meet begins at 12 p.m. and admission is free. This will be the Eagles' final competition before the CCSA Championships in Athens Feb. 17-19.

Phoenix all over the Eagles, 84-62

ELON, N.C. - Georgia Southern was unable to handle Elon's size on Saturday night, falling 84-62 to the Phoenix at Alumni Gym. The defeat closed the Eagles' tour of North Carolina's Piedmont Triad. GSU was led by Jelani Hewitt, who scored 18 points. Senior forward Rory Spencer had a career-high 13 rebounds to lead all players.

UNCG knocks off GSU

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Georgia Southern Men's Basketball team recorded 12 steals on the night but could not steal the victory on Thursday night, January 20th, at UNC Greensboro, falling 87-75. Freshman Eric Ferguson (Statesboro, Ga.) returned to form with 24 points with a pair of blocks and thunderous dunks. Junior Ben Drayton III (St. Marys, Ga.) chipped in 17 points and had eight assists as he narrowly missed his first double-double of the season.

Lady Cougars nip GSU on the road

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Georgia Southern took two shots in the final four seconds but fell to the College of Charleston, 40-39. The Lady Eagles scored less than 40 points for just the second time this season and were led by Meredyth Frye's 12 points.
