This week I received an email from local Realtor Todd Manack regarding statewide real estate sales trends, and it had some encouraging figures, but a mixed bag at best.
The first few days of a new school year have passed, but according to the calendar - and thermometer, summer days linger. While celebrating a fresh year of school, don't forget to continue making summer memories, like another trip to the ocean, one more watermelon, or sprinkler fun on a hot day. In addition to those warm-weather activities, try some of these holiday suggestions or create family ones of your own.
Between 1802 and 1906 there were 14 schooners sailing the North Atlantic named the Atlanta. They ranged from the 45-ton vessel built in Maine in 1848 to the 104-ton ship built in Nova Scotia in 1862.
Some people have difficulty understanding what it means to be a Christian. Does it mean going to church, praying regularly and often, and reading the Bible daily? Does living as a Christian mean following a bunch of "dos and don'ts?" I would suggest it means all these things and others as well, but there is really no place in scripture that gives a neat list of what is involved in following Jesus.
Jim Fusilli, rock and pop reviewer for The Wall Street Journal, recently opined that Rolling Stone magazine's Top 500 Songs of All Time reflected "boomer bias," pointing out that a disproportionate number of selections were from the 1960s and 1970s. That got me thinking of the many times I've been accused of idealizing 1950s child rearing. I do, in fact, often compare the manner in which children were raised in those halcyon days with today's "parenting," daring to say that the 1950s was a much better time for kids.
East Georgia Regional Medical Center was recently named to the Georgia Hospital Association's (GHA) Partnership for Health and Accountability (PHA) Core Measures Honor Roll. It is one of 17 hospitals in Georgia to be placed in the Chairman's category, the highest on the list.
For those of you who travel Gentilly Road on a regular basis, you may have noticed survey crews up and down the busy corridor that leads from Georgia Southern to Brannen St. and the mall area.
A friend of mine is fond of saying that if it wasn't for his wife, he wouldn't have a past! A lot of folks - maybe most - have trouble with memory as they get older. That has certainly been my experience.
Q: My 21-month-old has started hitting. Whenever he hits his 4-year-old sister, I put him in his crib until he calms down. Recently, however, his sister has started hitting back. I don't want her thinking that I go easier on him when it comes to discipline. How do I implement fair and effective punishment for the same offense for children of different ages?
Between 1850 and 1870, four large cargo ships named the Atlanta were built in New England and the Canadian Maritimes. The first weighed 699 tons; while the last weighed 1,064 tons.
OK all of you foodies. There is another restaurant slated to open in our area the first week in August.
I am, I've been told, a good storyteller. I've been told this enough that I've come to accept it as true.
The first steamship Savannah was a 350-ton ship built by the Fickett and Crocker Shipyard in New York for the new Savannah Steamship Company.
Q: My ex-husband has our 3-year-old son from Thursday through Saturday, every weekend. When I hand him over to his dad, he's fairly well behaved, but when I get him back, he's disrespectful and defiant. It takes a day or two to get him back on track. I work very hard to discipline consistently and it seems his dad unravels everything I accomplish.
The first naval warship named the Savannah was a "Galley" built on the Savannah River in 1798. Fifty-two feet long and armed with seven deck guns, she patrolled the Savannah coast between 1799 and 1802.
