Bye-bye, blue laws

Both Statesboro and Bulloch County said goodbye Tuesday night to blue laws as referendums for Sunday alcohol sales passed. For Statesboro voters, the Sunday sales referendum passed with flying colors for both package and restaurant sales. The vote for package sales in Statesboro was 772 to 558, while votes for restaurant sales were 749 to 548.

2 armed robberies in 2 days at GSU

A man was shot in the finger Sunday night during an armed robbery near Georgia Southern University's Paulson Stadium. Less than 24 hours later, a man was robbed at gunpoint on a jogging trail near GSU's Recreation Activity Center.

This past Tuesday, middle school students from Langston Chapel and William James played tennis matches against area rival schools on the courts of the Mill Creek Tennis Center. It was the first day the 10-court complex was open to public play and offered a clear example of benefits our community reaps from funds collected through the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST).

Our Views - Sunday sales will help local businesses

Voters will decide Tuesday if the sale of alcohol will be allowed in Bulloch County on Sundays. The question of allowing beer and wine sales in convenience and grocery stores is on the ballot in Statesboro, Brooklet, Portal and the county. City of Statesboro voters have the additional question of allowing restaurants to sell beer, wine and liquor on Sundays.
