An Evans County teen is in critical condition after being struck by lightning Wednesday afternoon. The bolt also knocked eight other Pinewood Christian Academy students off their feet, said Evans County EMS Director Mark Bird.

An oak tree split and fell on several vehicles in the parking lot behind Ag South on South Main Street Wednesday afternoon around 4 p.m. Despite the fact that one of the vehicles was occupied at the time, no one was injured in the incident.

Brooklet Peanut Festival

The Variations will be sure to draw a large crowd for the street dance at the 20th Annual Brooklet Peanut Festival, but some may be too tired to tango after a day filled with activities. The festival is slated for Saturday, Aug. 15, from 7 a.m. until 10:30 p.m. in downtown Brooklet.
