Shearing day for alpacas at Brannen farm

It was shearing day at the Brannen farm off Old Register Road Wednesday as more than 20 alpacas were relieved of their winter coats. Two professional alpaca shearers from Arizona spent most of the day cutting the fleece from the llama-like animals. The alpacas also received vaccinations and had their nails trimmed. Running to remember a friend

While most people were sleeping this past Saturday morning, Michael Holsonback was busy pounding out 20+ miles on the roads of Statesboro. At 3:13 a.m., Holsonback set out to begin a 23-mile run from his home off of Pulaski Highway to Magnolia Baptist Church where his friend and teammate, Levon Jones, rests.
