Lee-Jackson dinner draws history buffs

More than 80 members of local Sons of Confederate Veterans camps met at R.J.s Steakhouse in Statesboro Saturday for the ninth annual Lee-Jackson Awards Banquet. According to 5th Brigade Commander Mike Mull, the Sons of Confederate Veterans (SCV) has members in 30 states, from Alaska to Hawaii to Florida to Maine.

Suspects charged in copper wire theft at Julia P.

When Bryan County law enforcement officers went to a Pembroke-area home to serve warrants Thursday, they found two men burning insulation off a large amount of copper wiring. Suspicious, they contacted Statesboro Police, and detectives determined the wiring was stolen from the Statesboro area, said Statesboro Police Chief Stan York.
